You are the expert on you, and you already possess all the tools necessary to heal and achieve your goals! Life experiences however can cause those tools or skills to become buried. In a safe and supportive therapeutic environment my role is to help uncover your “toolbox”, remove the broken or ineffective tools, sharpen the dull ones, and add a few new shiny ones. To embark on this counseling journey several critical therapeutic ingredients are needed: safety, empathy, and trust (SET).
I use an integrative approach infused with mindfulness practices to help my clients gain insight and self-awareness, which is the first step needed for healing, growth, and authentic change. On your journey of self-discovery and self-understanding, I will assist you in filling up your own personal toolbox filled with adaptive coping skills to help conqueror a variety of life stressors. Interventions are specifically tailored to each individual person, as you are one of a kind! I prioritize safety and confidentiality, and I strive to create and maintain an atmosphere of openness and respect. For couples experiencing cracks in their foundation, focus is placed on repairing and cementing those divides by increasing effective communication and conflict resolution skills, and building up your emotional bank accounts. You'll lead and I'll closely follow, serving as a skillfully trained second pair of eyes and ears.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II, with over fifteen years of experience in the counseling and mental health field. My early experiences include working with children on the autism spectrum, and with behavioral and emotional needs. I spent many years working with a very diverse group of individuals and couples in an outpatient setting treating a variety of mental health concerns including: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, self-esteem, interpersonal conflict, anger management, intimate partner violence, parenting, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. I also have a background in higher education where I served as an Admissions Interviewer and Academic Counselor for a Master's level clinical counseling and applied behavioral analysis program, providing support and guidance to students pursuing licensure and post graduate certification. I have been blessed to combine my life purpose and passion to successfully help others. So, how can I support your SET Journey?

Therapy is a professional and collaborative relationship between a client and therapist. It is a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental, confidential space to process thoughts, feelings, behaviors, experiences, and relationships; to heal from emotional pain and loss; to find solutions, improve communication, and develop coping skills; and to gain insight essential for growth and success. Therapy is work and it takes courage to begin. Consider allowing me to accompany you on your SET Journey.
That depends on your individual needs. For example, someone who has experienced trauma may engage longer than someone seeking to accomplish specific short term goals. Also, during the process you may find additional areas of concern you want to address. I may make clinical recommendations, but ultimately the decision is yours! Sessions are sixty minutes, and you can choose to meet weekly, biweekly, monthly, or schedule periodic check-ins.
Research indicates the greatest predictor of positive outcomes is the strength of the therapeutic alliance between the client and therapist. As with any relationship it takes time to build rapport and establish trust. Look for a therapist that makes you feel safe and comfortable, an experienced and knowledgeable therapist who is relatable and enables you to be your true authentic self.
Everyone's journey is different, and there are no absolute guarantees, however there is hope! My commitment to you is to help you achieve change, growth, and a healthier version of you. To help you feel empowered to accomplish goals, navigate obstacles, set healthy boundaries, positively change things that previously kept you stuck, and see a reduction or elimination of distressing symptoms.
Insurance can be a barrier to receiving effective and timely treatment. Therapists are required to document a mental health diagnosis, which becomes a permanent part of your medical record. Insurance can stipulate who you can see, what kind of services you are eligible for, limit the number of sessions, and have high co-pays or deductibles. If you have "out of network" benefits and want to submit a claim for reimbursement yourself, I will provide a "superbill" and any other required information.
Life happens! Some things are beyond our control and can impact our plans. My scheduling commitment is held exclusively for you, therefore, if you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment please provide notice at least 48 hours in advance so we can reschedule. If you do not communicate the need to cancel, or fail to show for your appointment, a 50% fee will be incurred. Exceptions are made for true emergencies.
